Years 1990 to 1994

On the Agenda

The limits of premature educational guidance, and the necessity to rectify.

Graduate First

Pre-virtualized from birth, I entered adulthood (administratively speaking) the year we moved back to Germany, a country about to be reunified, where I spent the last two years of high school. Yet I still felt that some aim had to be adjusted. "In how far does knowing imply doubting?", this was the question. Also the subject of our philosophy exam at the French Baccalaureate.

If it is undoubtedly my facility with languages that led me to the literary section although I never had the calling for it, I decided to satisfy my growing interest for societal issues (first a musical inspiration, then a junior high school subject matter area, and finally, a metaphysical obsession) by choosing to study professional translation with a specialization in economic sciences at the Saarland University.

At the time I entered university, I was nurturing a keen interest for everything related to innovation, considering that the technological progress (small and big) which had been introduced in our daily lives at reasonably spaced out intervals throughout the last decade (walkman, color television, electronic games, radio-cassette, remote control, CD) was bringing real improvements to our multimedia experience in terms of user comfort. Way enough to imprint a certain sense of before, during, after, and beyond.

The announcement of the deployment of the internet in the first half of the '90ies could therefore not have fallen into deafened ears anyway, not only because the related news reaching Europe from across the Atlantic could be daunting.
