On the Agenda

The limits of academic and vocational guidance, and the means to rectify.

Toolbox

After a first analysis, during the first semester, of future opportunities in the area of professional translation, which revealed three major career tracks (within an international organization, in the area of private business, or as a freelancer), I engaged in a great zigzag on the infotainment highway, with a lot of satellite TV support, and deeply motivated by the last chance scenario: "Should I end up suffocating in the public sector (overly bureaucratic) and/or private business (more flexible but still to be explored), I'd still have the option of working for both as an independent translator".

This dynamic consolidated itself so much, as I was rushing forward to fill the void as a means to cope with the perceived obsolescence of the University curriculum, that I finally settled, after the critical mid-term blues, for the business-as-usual track, convincing myself that once equipped with the right toolbox, the only thing left to be found to satisfy my thirst for independence would be: the right idea.

This is how a cognitive imbroglio wired to self-inflate turned a musical inspiration into a calling for societal issues, management, and organizational culture.

So much for motivating "Very Independent Personalities".
